I read that when a computer is compromised that there are some signs. I have noticed partial web history has been disappearing. Obviously I am not good at finding signs, but I wonder still.

I did not dismiss or delete any history that I am concerned about. I have 3.2 GB of space left on my hard drive. I don't think it is a space issue.

3.2GB is actually a very small amount of space compared to modern OS's and programs and data, I would not be shocked if your computer began deleting some log or history data to deal with the space limitations.

Some people may indeed by interested in your browsing history, but they will usually get it through your browser while you are visiting their website, if you allow them to do so. Even if someone wanted to "steal" your browing history (who? and why?) and managed to somehow get into your system, this still does not explain why they would *erase* it, risking attracting your attention instead of sneaking in and out unnoticed.

Firefox (and probably most current browsers) has a default mechanism to adjust cache size (including history) to a given number of pages based on available resources (memory and disk). Depending on how much RAM is available to your system, this may already have kicked in and some of your history may have been "expired" even if you would still have plenty of disk space to store it.
