Configuring keyboard input methods
Under Keyboard Preferences under Layouts I have English(US) French(CSA) German and Latvian.
Before upgrading to T12 from T11 from T10 Aramo, the Latvian layout gave approximately correct accents. "Type to Test Settings:" now produces nothing.
I tried removing and reinstalling the layouts and even tried alternative apostrophe keyboard versions but always with no results other than ASCII.
This is happening on an: xxx@xxx-HP-EliteBook-Folio-1040-G3
No difference when trying USB Trisquel 12 live session. Both left and right ALT keys retain their original bindings to system, non-language related functions.
When launching the T12 Live USB on older systems that previously could only run T8 and T9 Triskel, the opportunity to select a keyboard prior to testing still exists.
The HP elitebook now has T12 installed, and the screen is now lockable on suspend.
After considerable fiddling under system-> preferences-> hardware-> keyboard-> Layouts
I discovered that resetting to defaults, adding again the same new keyboard and then moving it up to the top of the list got it to respond outside of the graphic menu interface.
Still missing (on the HP elite system) is the ability to switch layouts under options-> switching layouts-> where choosing from predefined key combinations still remains ignored.
Similarly, the keyboard language switcher is nowhere to be found on to the panel (task bar).
For the time being I have placed keyboard accessibility options on the panel, but it's not the same as the missing language switcher.
Observations: On systems where the language switcher appears on the panel, I still have issues enabling keyboards previously selected. One (seemingly undocumented) workaround is to avoid using key combinations at all to switch keyboard layouts. This became apparent when having a German Keyboard with dead keys and other keyboards without dead keys on the same list.
